'The News from Lake Wobegon'

There was a long slow soaking rain on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Pastor Inqvuist and Judy both woke and both wished the other was awake. Clarence woke up and though it was the telephone. The kids knew that they would not have to weed. They could read all day. The Three Musketeers never had to weed gardens. Brian Tollefsen lay on the porch reading the latest Flambeau mystery. He is fascinated that the Flambeau family are all friends. Picking raspberries and gas mileage are not big things to the Flambeaus. Irene and Arlene Bunsen met each other went to visit their mother's grave, who died 16 years ago. Irene still hears he mother's voice when she is doing simple house work. The Chatterbox was full of customers, who were thankful for the rain. They were all wedged in tight, including the NBFs. If the drought persisted too long, an NBF might have to get married. So they were thankful for the rain. Mayor Clint Bunsen has to declare a drought emergency if the water tank gets too VG low. He could not find a boy to throw a baseball at the tank. Clint climbed the tank and hit the tank with a ladder. The rain will avoid the drought. Byron Tollefsen was complaining about the lack of mushrooms in the soup. You knew he has happy because he was complaining.. He said that it in the year 2000, it will only take 300 people to farm rural Minnesota. 75 to do the farming and 225 to keep the records. Cows will soon be rectangular and will be highly efficient. The whole troop of Krepsbachs came in. Carl had been working on the Bowser's house. He tore off the front porch. Carl helped to take inventory at Krepsbach Chevrolet. The boys call out the number of parts and Florian sits at his old desk and writes down the inventory. The desk is full of reminders that Florian has postponed. Half way through, Florian gives up. He folds the sheet into thirds and stuffs it into a pigeon hole. They all go down to the Chatterbox. Everyone is sitting at the Chatterbox and that's where we leave them on Wednesday, June 10, 1987. Lake Wobegon is like an ocean in the rain.
