After that the sheep were obedient. Mr. Hoppe, the NBF, was a bulldozer driver for 30 years until he had an accident. He came back to the old family homestead in LW and worked as a janitor for the Lutheran church. He went to Duluth, lived at the Mariner's Hotel and drank at the Crow's Nest Bar. He ran into a cop by accident and a scuffle ensued. The police came to his room to arrest him. Soon the riot squad and the TV crews assembled. The civil disturbance kit had a bazooka and tear gas, white phosphorous, and armor-piercing shells, all unlabelled. The practice shot of tear gas cleared the streets. The AP shell which went through 6 brick walls of 4 buildings. The sound floored the police. Mr. Hoppe left by the back door and returned to LW, where he was much easier to get along with. The pedestrian skyways in Duluth resulted from the shell holes.
