'The News from Lake Wobegon'

Lovely snow covers the trees. The lnqvists came back from a wonderful vacation in FL. Kate announced that she had been awarded a scholarship at Athena College in VT. David suggested that discussing it but Kate had decided. Athena College is very liberal. They have no dorm restrictions and no literature from colonial nations. She will use grandpa's savings bonds to pay the excess expense. Judy was so shocked that she said nothing. Nature plans that children should be hostile, cut loose, leave their parents, and propagate the species. The Inqvist's kitchen light has been on late at night. Other parents are sitting wide awake thinking about their sins. Arnold Voss remembers driving the Mack truck through a blizzard and the cherry picker pulling down 10 or 15 miles of telephone lines. Kate does not know the meaning of the word "synod." The poem. "Wild Geese." The first light of dawn shows the new fallen snow.
