'The News from Lake Wobegon'

Ed and Wanda Beeler's youngest boy, Jimmy, went to St. Paul with two friends to stand in line all night to get tickets to the Mammoth rock band. He announced this at supper time and Ed hit the ceiling. Wanda set firm rules for the first of her six children but the rules gradually wore away. Ed is the shop teacher at school and wants no home crises. After conferring, they let Jimmy go. At 12:30, 1,000 kids were in line at 5 below zero. After an hour, his friends went back to car. At 3:00 o'clock, he realized they had fallen asleep. He met a girl and they talked all night. Wanda woke at 3:00 and read Home and Hearth to put her to sleep. The article about rock concerts panned Mammoth. She was still up at breakfast time. Jimmy lasted until 9:30 when the ticket box opened. He got home at 5:30 to sleep for 16 hours. Wanda stared at the tickets. Should she burn them? Cousin Flo is filling in at the Chatterbox.
