'The News from Lake Wobegon'

John Sorderberg rumored to be building a 30-foot boat in his pole barn. He's 60-years old and a pig farmer and a deacon in the church. People ask him about it but John puts them off. John put a new tin roof on his pole barn which brings in all kinds of channels on his TV. He saw a color picture of sail boats off Australia. John's sister, Audrey, was the youngest child. She was brought up without rules because her parents were exhausted after nine. She refused to eat vegetables. Everyone waited for something terrible to happen to her. Her not eating vegetables has not affected her. She came back for John's 60th and she picked out all the peas and mushrooms out of her tuna hot dish. Two of her children are vegetarians. John is very responsible and his wife Franny mother is more so. On Tuesday, Franny went to Lutheran Missionary Circle. John was feeding the hogs when he a cramps in his left leg. He decided to go fishing. He did not close the gate or the back door tightly. A large Hampshire boar eased out of the pen and into the kitchen. As John walked over the ice, he stepped into someone else's fish hole. He broke his leg and fell forward. No one was around and he had to crawl to his fish house. Franny arrived home to find a 240-pound Hampshire boar on her kitchen table. The hog was barbarism come into her home. She reached for a broom and the hog walked back to his pen. She rehearsed her speech for John. John reached his fish house but there were no matches. John laid down a prepared to die. When Franny's speech was at a fine polish so she set out to find John. She drove out on the lake and marched to fish house. John lay with his with a broken leg and said, "God is good."
