'The News from Lake Wobegon'

GK flew to Atlanta with Mary Louise Crandal. Leaving LW without an excuse is desertion. The news doesn't talk about cannibalism in January and February. Mostly elderly people get eaten so they can be excused for going south. GK's ancestors would only go south if an angel told them to. Southerners are part of a snake handling culture. John Crandal expected to marry Marilyn Bunsen, who sat in front of him in school but she married a 21-year old electrician. John became a drunk for two years until he had an accident driving the ambulance. The nurse told to shape up so he went to university and took political science. He met Mary Louise from Georgia at the model United Nations. He wooed her for three years while he went to law school. She visited his family in LW with eight pieces of luggage. She rested a good deal during the visit getting up at 10:00 am. She read to 3-year old Curtis the revised southern version of Little Toot the train. John's mom expected the marriage to last five weeks but it's lasted 32 years.
