'The News from Lake Wobegon'

GK's family went to the State Fair every year. They walked to midway but not too close. Other kids wore jeans and T-shirts but they wore Christian clothes. The Youth for Christ Revival competed with the barkers for the nudie shows. Uncle Earl entered Aunt Myrna in the $2000 Peter Pan cake baking sweepstakes. She was one of 15 contestants in the finals. Uncle Earl said she could witness. She baked 40 test cakes, most of which were inedible. They had car trouble and arrived by bus. The contest took was on stage while the orchestra played Glen Miller. She was limp and weak. GK and Uncle Earl sat in the stands. Joey Chitwood raced around while the cakes baked. Aunt Myrna apologized for her dry cake but she came fifth. She was happy and she was never afraid after that. The final Ferris Wheel ride.
