'The News from Lake Wobegon'

All of the ice houses are on the lake. They're not for fishing but to get away from women. GK remembers his first night in an ice house with his uncle, who told him a racy joke. Elizabeth, at the telephone exchange, landed on GK about his stories about LW. Nobody except her in LW listens to PHC. GK decided to tell only the very best stories. Men need women to shape them up. Mrs. Soderberg went to St. Paul for the day and came home to find pigs in the house. Mr. Soderberg remembered Leo Krepsbach from his youth. He was funny and irreverent. He remembered going ice fishing with Leo in 1937 and talking about birth and death. Leo said that God made babies like a gumball machine. You were whoever came next. John said God knows everything. Leo denied God. Then John caught a 12-pound walleye. He was walking out to his ice house when he realized that God loved him. He stuck his foot in a hole and broke his leg. He crawled to his ice house but he had no matches. His wife came home and found the pigs in the house. She wanted to give him hell so she drove to the ice house and found him near death.
