'The News from Lake Wobegon' (full transcription)

It has been a quiet week in Lake Wobegon this last week, though it may not be for long because brother Bob and sister Evelyn from the Worldwide Harvest Evangelist Association in Lincoln, Nebraska are coming out to Lake Wobegon Lutheran to hold a week long revival meeting. And some of em seem about that long too at Lake Wobegon Lutheran Church. For a week or as long as it takes. At the invitation of Pastor Ingquvist, who is the brother in law of Brother Bob and the brother of Sister Evelyn, and can't find it in his heart to say no.

It's quite a dramatic occasion in Lake Wobegon, whose residents believe themselves to be pretty good people, all right, about average. But who about once a year when brother Bob and sister Evelyn come out, are told that the town is the Sodom and Gomorrah of the prairies. A whited sepulchre and a sinkhole of corruption and foulness. A lot of people do not sit right up in the front row for that one, I'll tell you. A lot of people find a chance to be elsewhere during the week, but they are coming and I do mention it to you.

Thank goodness the Kruger boy has gotten married and will be out of town when all of this righteousness fires up. I mention it because the Kruger boy, the oldest boy, Alvin- has been kind of under a shadow of suspicion all his life in that town, which is a Christian town I guess, but not particularly forgiving. All on account of the fact that he was born about 7 1/2 months after his parents were married. All his life he has lived with whispers that he was somehow not quite right, that he was illegitimate. That he was born out of wedlock. Well, he wasn't born out of wedlock he just wasn't born far enough into wedlock.

But he's a good boy and he's gotten married and I hope that legitimates him- legitimizes him somehow in that town before brother Bob and sister Evelyn come in and start holding their service. Which Father Emil over at Our Lady of Perpetual Responsibility looks on with great amusement. As something that Protestants do to each other out of boredom and frustration at having a pretty thin theology. Yes, Sir.

He sits up there on the hill and just kind of chuckles. Regular services tomorrow at Lake Wobegon Lutheran- Sunday school be at 9:45 and worship service at 10:30. Pastor Inqvist will be speaking on the topic Important Things We Should All Be Mindful Of. Which means that he had not written the sermon by the time they bulletin went to press here this morning.

It's matching Luther League sleigh ride, told you about that tonight and then the Christian Farmers Club will meet on Monday morning in the church basement for a prayer breakfast and a talk on corn smut.

At Our Lady of Perpetual Responsibility, Father Emil will be celebrating mass tomorrow at 10:00 and 11:00 o'clock and then following the 11:00 o'clock, for which the 3rd and 4th grade acarina band will play the offertory. There will be in the parking lot behind the church, the annual blessing of the snowmobiles. So you're all invited to come for that one. It’s quite an occasion.

The news from Lake Wobegon Minnesota, where all the women are strong and all the men are good looking and all the children are above average. Bless em, every single one of them.
