'The News from Lake Wobegon'

Clothier Hall is rather ostentatious for a chapel that was built by the Quakers. GK described going to church is his youth. They all took hot baths on Saturday. The fundamentalist Cold Water Brethren sect did not believe in hot baths. Under Father Al, masses at Our Lady were at 8:00 and 9:00. Father Emil changed this to 8:00 and 10:00. At LW Lutheran, the service is always at 11:00. Father Bill had a picture of our Lord on water skis. GK giggled during Pastor Torvaldsen's sermon. Pastor T described a young man who laughed during service and was killed in a car accident. When people decides that they don't want to go go to church, they complain about the preaching, which is not their real reason. The point is to be there with the rest of the people and to sit quietly and wait.
