'The News from Lake Wobegon'

Remembering Christmas mornings from younger days. The 30-foot spruce stands in front of the statue. Everybody gathered in the dark in front of the tree for carol singing. Mrs. Hoglund has the flu and her replacement, Mrs. Jansky, thought that it started at 8.00. Everyone came at 7:00. Remembering when he forgot that the hay ride. Remembering ramming the snow bank with the small son standing in the front seat. Remembering feeding Mazumbo, the elephant. The choir started singing and Mrs. Jansky dashed down to the square. Judy Inkvuist remembered making Christmas cookies for the Olsen's Christmas party as the new pastor's wife. After three batches, she made perfect cookies. Three teen-age boys ate them like potato chips in 30 seconds. She realized the benefit, since she would be baking cookies for ever.
