'The News from Lake Wobegon'

Summary of last year in LW. They had a good cold winter. The Junior Senior Prom theme was "A Night at a New York Disco". Bruno, the old arthritic fishing dog, came back to LW for fishing season. The Living Flag will be on June 14. The LW'Ladies Carriage will be in the Flag Day parade. The horses were behind the wagon so ladies would not be embarrassed by horse manure. It never caught on because it was dangerous to steer. It will be pushed by a pink 1957 Oldsmobile convertible that is sitting in Bunsen Motor's used car lot. It used to be Daryl Tolerude's car. Clarence, Clint, Carl, and Lyle drove the Oldsmobile straight through to Pittsburgh and bought lottery tickets in the PA lottery. On the way back they told all the dirty jokes they knew. Lyle wrote down the 600 punch lines. If Clarence had won, his life would have been ruined. Clarence went to the Sidetrack Tap to celebrate. Mr. Berge told the rumor that Pastor and Judy Inqvuist were getting a divorce. They had planned to go to San Diego for the minister's retreat. Val said to choose between the trip or new siding on the ministry. Then, Val siphoned the money off to buy a window of St. Andrew. Ella Anderson died in March at age 87 in the middle of the night. She left her husband, Henry, and her daughter, Charlotte, behind. David tried to comfort them. Henry needed no comfort. Charlotte was bellowing and shrieking. He called Judy to try to comfort Charlotte for half an hour. She stayed for 9-1/2 days. Finally she got free and went looking David. She picked up some clothes from the rummage and really dressed up. She asked Arlene Bunsen and borrowed a car. She took the 1957 Oldsmobile and drove off to Minneapolis. About 35 miles south of LW, she turned around and headed back to the parsonage. She picked up a rock and threw it through the St. Andrew window. Bruno heard the window crash and looked and saw a fish but it was dead fish. He dropped the fish in the middle Main Street. He lost his desire to fish and became a dog again and trotted home to Lena. The 1957 Oldsmobile rolled all the way to LW. David and Judy looked at the window and said, "Thank God, you're all right. Not a single Lutheran asked any questions. Nothing appeared in the paper. The Oldsmobile shimmy was cured by going into the lake.

Other mentions/discussions during the show

Shy people on an elevator. Timmy, Sheila, and Fr. Finian are saved at the last minute by Buster and they sail for France. GK never sang gospel as a member of the Sanctified Brethren. Guilt is the cause of pregnancy. The sperm has to his head down. There They Were: The Chicago fire. Lewis and Clark cross the Missouri. Marvin and Mavis Smiley's bluegrass hits. Skit about reaching out for each other.
