The LW farmers are cutting the first hay of the season. Rolly Hochstetler and his brother-in-law caught a whole string of sunfish on Lake Wobegon. Rolly' s philosophy is that if you can't have something, think of a reason why you don't want it. Rolly's favorite grandson, Dale Eaker, left town on Wednesday to join the navy. Rolly had showed him how to shoot and to handle pigs. He didn't ask Rolly about his decision. Rolly gave Dale a 1972 Pontiac last year. There was a crisis meeting at the Bakers. Dale is the youngest boy and he planned to stay home for the summer. He'd worked for his father, Jack, on the farm. When he asked if he was going to be paid, Jack was furious. His mother thought of the crazy things that Dale had done. Ground hogs were destroying the garden. Dale shot the first one. His second shot missed and the ricochet hit the family Chevy. They had a big family lunch and then Dale headed out into his future.
GK was lonely for his wife away in Denmark. A visit with the Copelys who live next to the 14th fairway.
