'The News from Lake Wobegon'

It was a quiet Thanksgiving week. Nobody can find a way to make Thanksgiving commercial because it's the day we give thanks for what we already have. We already know what we are going to eat. Roast turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry and squash. Watermelon pickles are for decoration only. We are children again but the children are looking at us with respect. The children are not going to throw a bean at their old uncle. Going way back, GK and his sister would throw food at each other. She flicked a pat of butter into his left nostril. GK went into the kitchen with the water pitcher. He came back and poured ice down her bare back. She did not say anything either, because Dad would send both of them to their rooms. GK watched her for hours but when they were washing dishes in the kitchen, she tossed a chunk of cranberry at him. Senator K. Thorvaldsen was at the Tollefson family Thanksgiving dinner with Laura. She arrived on Wednesday night. She is a slender gray-haired handsome lady. She did not shovel her food into her mouth. Her name is Peterson but she is not related to any Peterson they know. He is so much in love. They got out of the house as soon as they could. They went for a walk up the hill towards the cemetery. They were making plans for the trip to Florida when he slipped and fell. He heard a symphony and he changed his plans. Once GK slipped on a front porch. He did a dance as he came down the steps, a Minnesota flamenco .
