'The News from Lake Wobegon'

The telephone woke up Virginia Inkvuist at 3.00 am but the rings stopped. She called her nephew, David Inkvuist, but she hung up when he did not answer quickly. She went to his house and left a bouquet of flowers on the porch with an unsigned note saying that she would never call again. It would have been better she had signed it. David's wife found it. GK and went to church in LW and sat behind the first girl he had loved and her husband. It hurts to think of her married to 'Fruit Fly.' GK's scoutmaster, Einer Tingvold, was in church. GK was a lousy scout and never made tenderfoot or learned semaphore, which seemed useless since they would use Einer's station wagon in an emergency. Einer said he had dishonored scouting and his scouting insignia would be stripped from him. GK could imagine the awful scene. After church, Einer told him that he was wonderful scout.

Other mentions/discussions during the show

Short people ask GK if he ever played basketball. They Made Us Do It: SB eats an unwashed apple. PO takes off his shirt. BT hawks and spits. Merle Travis obituary. JR joke about burping in public. Department of Folk Songs: Worms crawl in. Go eat worms. True blue billy. Junior birdman.
