LW was not paralyzed by the snow storm because people weren't going anywhere. Senator K Thorvaldson got married to a lovely lady that he met in a want ad. He is back in town to sell the old Thorvaldsen farm, which has been abandoned for fifty years. There has been a terrible dry spell and no new cars have been sold for a year. Darlene the waitress from the chatterbox went to Minneapolis to find her husband, Arlen, so that she could divorce him. He leaked away six years ago. She got a job selling new Japanese Tora cars. Her dad taught her about cars. No man ever admits ignorance about a car and she became a top sales person and bought a condominium. She lost 15 pounds great success. She was in a story on the eye witness news. The next day 20 men were waiting, including Arlen. She took him out to dinner and back to her condo. They went to the bedroom. He continued to hang around. As a Lutheran girl, Darlene has trouble meeting men. One night in bed, he asked her if there was anyone else. She answered that she had a relationship with Roger Hedlund. This upset Arlen. He had lived with a women for three years but it didn't amount to anything. Arlen got a divorce and just about cleaned out Darlene. Then she· found that she was pregnant. They are not sympathetic to this in LW. She worried for a month and then went to the doctor and found that she wasn't pregnant. She realized that she really wanted that baby. She decided that she could get into trouble again. Senator K sold the 60 acres. Everything is derelict in the old farm except one building - the seed building, which was built tight.
GK talks about his difficulty in writing his novel. GK moved temporarily to Denmark but he had difficulty with the Danish language. Midwesterners in NY lean to the northwest. Midwesterners are nice. They can not complain. There are no humanists in LW. Growing up in a Sanctified Brethren family.
