'The News from Lake Wobegon'

The actual news from Lake Wobegon sometimes takes a while to slip out. It appears quiet, but conversations that take place down the road uncover some pretty substantial “News.” One such story was about Great-Grandpa being a failure at farming. He eventually sold the property, which became downtown Minneapolis. Great-Grandpa and Great-Grandma moved off to Colorado and made it big in the Gold Rush. They moved back to Minnesota but Great-Grandma accidentally burned down the house baking bread and the bounty was lost. Years later, an uncle figured out that gold nuggets wouldn’t burn, so the family went out to the property to dig. Dug down six feet and got the metal detector out — nothing was there. Probably gold certificates.
