'The News from Lake Wobegon'

Perfect fall days. While reconstructing the Mercantile, they found a Norwegian saying, "Remember to love while you still dare to. Remember to live while you're still alive." It was from Johnson's Cafe and Concert Hall. It was really a saloon but August Johnson called it a cafe out of respect for his mother. August and his brother jumped from a bridge in Copenhagen on a 300 crown bet. Oscar drowned. August used the money to marry Anna and come to LW. Anna was always angry so he never came home. Anna adopted twelve children and raised them in Swedish. Momma visited LW three times and the saloon became a cafe during her visit. August brought a play company from Minneapolis to put on a Swedish play for Momma. August fell in love with Myena, the young actress in the play. He hired her as a waitress and a singer. They loved each other for three blissful years. Then August hired Oscar, a young man to be a waiter. Oscar fell in love with Myena. He talked to August and August agreed. They were married on a perfect fall day.
