'The News from Lake Wobegon'

GK walked around in light clothes and caught a cold. GK gets lost in the winter in Minnesota. Main Street in LW is too wide because the pioneers expected LW to be much more successful. Lutherans all drive Fords and Catholics all drive Chevys. Clifford opens a successful laundromat but only the slothful and ignorant use it. LW dairy farmer plays PHC in the milking barn to help the Holsteins to relax. GK's classmate, Benny, is there. He looks too old to be a classmate. He tells GK that he is getting married for the 3rd time. Lisa won't have to have an abortion. He and Lisa fight constantly, often over their answering machines. Old guys talk about going to Florida or California. When Benny agrees, the old guys change the subject.

Other mentions/discussions during the show

GK has a bad cold. No public toilets in NY. Withdrawing money from a talking ATM. Buying a sleazy magazine. Haircuts from Diane's Dancing Hair. NY, the publishing capital of the U. S. Cocktail parties for writers. Hundreds of books about NY. Poem about writing a book. Harry the frog seeks a larger pond. Goes to the seashore. Gets squashed by a truck. LRT: "Ronny Opera at the Olsen." Ronnie, a 4'-2" opera singer, works at his mother's meatball shop. The ballet dancer, Celeste, supports his dream. He throws 300 meatballs at the tenor and takes his place as an opera star. Fisher's Coffee saves the sinking ship. Day activities center, collecting men named Stan. Shower knobs in NY work differently
