'The News from Lake Wobegon'

It's been a cold wet spring. The fields are plowed and harrowed. The old men sit in the Chatterbox and carry on the same conversations that GK heard when he was 16. These conversations are why GK went to U of Minn. He lived at home for the I" year. He was riding the Greyhound bus to school when the bus was hit head on by a station wagon and three people in the station wagon were killed. The next day he was at U of Minn. on a glorious sunny day. He wrote an English essay about the accident. He worked his way through school as a parking lot attendant. He describes his years at the U of Minn. They worried about not being cool enough. Scholarship cures you of envy. You learn to see through sophistication. His wife had her first baby at the university hospital. OK's story of his college days.
