"Had the time of my life last night in Indiana, a solo show at an open-air theater, a thousand Hoosiers sitting under a roof in a thunderstorm, rain pouring down, and I trotted onstage and sang, “Singin’ In The Rain,” which they sang with me and were delighted, so I swung into “How Great Thou Art” which rhymes “wonder” with “rolling thunder,” and “God Bless America,” rain thundering on the roof, no point in doing my comedy act, so I hummed a note and they hummed and I apologized to any progressive leftists in the crowd for making them sing a song by a man who’d owned slaves, and the big laugh told me it was a Republican crowd, and we did the national anthem, the sopranos hitting the high C over “land of the free,” and segued into “I Saw Her Standing There” and they did the falsetto squeals, and it was a jubilant time, especially for an old Scots-Anglo like me, and I realized I don’t care about cancellation, it only means that I get to do shows for Republicans, and I can't wait to do more. I am a happy cancellee. Cancel any complaints I've made about the injustice of it all. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I'm going to watch the weather map and follow storm fronts and sing in the rain."
